Tecmo Bowl Getting Creator-Powered Film Adaptation by Tongal

Known for their work on Pharrell Williams and LEGO’s Piece by Piece, Tongal is opening development of a Tecmo Bowl movie to their global community of over 160,000 filmmakers and creators.

Originally released back in 1989 (remember when?), Tecmo Bowl and Bo Jackson changed the gaming scene with real NFL teams and player stats.

With the Tecmo Bowl movie, Tongal is inviting fans to shape its visual world, characters, and tone from the ground-up.

Beginning today, filmmakers and fans alike can participate in building the Tecmo Bowl movie’s world via Tongal’s open creative. This first-of-its-kind experiment will let the gaming community shape what is looking to be a major sports film adaptation.

James DeJulio, Tongal CEO and Co-Founder, said the following:

“I grew up playing Tecmo Bowl with my friends, as did so many kids of the 90s, and I know this is going to resonate with the fans and their families.

We’re bringing together our creator community and cutting-edge creator platform to reinvent how features are developed and produced.

Just as we did with Piece by Piece, this is an opportunity to innovate and build a new model for storytelling — one where beloved IP is supercharged by the talent and ideas of independent creators around the world.”

Interested in participating? Catch up on the nitty-gritty around this Tecmo Bowl adaptation via the project brief via official website.

Meanwhile, the official rules can be found via its official page.

One can stay connected via Tongal’s Facebook, Twitter/X, Instagram, and YouTube social media channels.
