Lumines Arise Review – Timeline Cleanse

Featuring a legacy of excellence (and the beats to match!), Enhance Experience is bringing the time-tested puzzler Lumines to cutting-edge platforms with the release of Lumines Arise.

Should players feel the rhythm, or is this song played out?

Lumines Arise Review

Never immersed yourself in any Lumines entry?

No need to worry – Lumines Arise is an excellent jumping off point.

For those not in the know (or possibly never had a PlayStation Portable), this storied puzzle game has players utilizing 2×2 blocks to make like-colored squares as the ever-sweeping Timeline moves along.

Once said Timeline hits one’s amalgamation of blocks, it’s cleared from the board. Keep the blocks coming, and one will be rewarded with combos-a-plenty and a high score true to genre form.

As a result, players will have to not only keep a watchful eye not on block placement, but also one’s timing at any given moment. Lumines Arise flows incredibly well, keeping once in a trance as one achieves perfect harmony through its 35 different stages.

Before you know it, 20 minutes have gone by – all in a day’s work!

Of course, simply talking about Lumines’ gameplay is selling it short – Lumines Arise provides an experience just waiting to be explored.

While that sounds grandiose, Lumines Arise is in a league of its own when it comes to its audiovisual presentation with original music and beats by the very talented Hydelic and Takako Ishida.

As players make their “Journey” across a number of different areas, they’ll encounter worlds of astronauts, veggies, and some truly creative motifs we won’t spoil – think of it as a concert set list one needs to see to believe!

On that note, the music in Lumines Arise is truly fantastic too. Each area of Lumines Arise has a different feel to it, and while it does tend to lean heavily on the bass (with the controller vibrations to match), Lumines Arise’s music is all killer and no filler.

Outside of one’s single player journey, Lumines Arise also features multiplayer and mission modes to add some variety. One can also make their own Playlist to make their Lumines Arise experience distinctly theirs.

Joining one on their Lumines Arise journey is a Loomii avatar. Moving and grooving right outside the main play area, players can redeem earned in-game Pon currency for its gacha system to make one’s Loomii uniquely their own.

While Loomiis are purely cosmetic (with an optional ASTRO BOT flavor for PlayStation 5 players), they still add a personal touch that is most welcome.

Music to our ears, Lumines Arise is a stellar puzzle game that provides the ultimate timeline cleanse.
