Onimusha 2: Samurai’s Destiny Remastered Preview

A fan-favorite for decades (since 2002!), Capcom will let players reclaim one’s destiny once more with the upcoming release of Onimusha 2: Samurai’s Destiny Remastered.

Gamers Heroes recently got the chance to check out the first few hours of Capcom’s hotly anticipated Onimusha 2: Samurai’s Destiny Remaster – see what’s to come with our hands-on preview.

Onimusha 2: Samurai’s Destiny Remastered Preview

Onimusha 2: Samurai’s Destiny kicks off with a man named Jubei heading home to protect his village from a demon attack. Unfortunately, things don’t go well – and he is tasked with finding sacred items to stop the demon invasion and ultimately avenge his village.

Jubei’s travels lead you to a small mining town in Imasho that has recently struck gold. As a result, trades, adventures, and all sorts have come to the area, giving players a chance to find additional clues on the items you are looking for.

Demons are present in the mines, so one will quickly get to work cleaning them out. Combat in Onimusha 2 is streamlined and works well, but players can obtain scrolls to unlock additional moves and combos.

One’s basic attacks can knock enemies down, allowing players to then stab them on the floor. Want to bring the pain? One’s special attack can also change depending on the element of the weapon one has equipped.

From the original release, one will need to change weapons from the pause menu – and one changes weapons a lot.

Thankfully, Jubei has been gifted a bracelet that lets him summon elemental weapons after he finds certain shrines. Players are granted a lightning one early on, and then can find an ice one in the mines.

Since each weapon has its own mana bar, players will have to switch often to use one’s best attacks. On top of that, ranged weapons like the bow also need to be equipped in your main hand.

While it does admittedly interrupt the flow of fighting, it’s a quick process when played on the PlayStation 5.

Imasho itself is easily one of the highlights of Onimusha 2: Samurai’s Destiny. One has travelers coming and going, and everyone will chat with you.

This area is also where players can make friends and get extra healing items. For instance, the inn is where fellow warriors will meet up, chat, and sometimes fight. Using gold, players can buy items from the shop to trade with them, then giving items in turn.

These companions will also come to help in combat from time to time. There was one instance where we were caught in a corner against a boss, when one of my allies came in and saved the day. If anything, we found ourselves grinding more gold just to get all the items for trade purposes.

Speaking of Onimusha 2’s bosses, they can provide quite the challenge on the normal difficulty. For every time we caught them in a crazy electric combo and kept them locked down, other times they’d escape and lay a beatdown.

While players can block and parry, Onimusha 2: Samurai’s Destiny was originally released before the dodge roll was a common thing. For those struggling, there is an easy difficulty – along with a hell difficulty for those seeking a bigger challenge.

After experiencing the first few hours of this hotly-anticipated Onimusha 2: Samurai’s Destiny Remaster, we are all too eager to dive back in and reclaim our destiny.

Onimusha 2: Samurai’s Destiny Remastered is set to release for the PlayStation 4, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch, and PC via Steam next month, on May 23.

One can learn more about Onimusha 2: Samurai’s Destiny via the official website.

Thank you to PR for inviting us to check out this hands-on preview for Onimusha 2: Samurai’s Destiny Remastered!
