Fatal Fury: City of the Wolves Duck King Preview

South Town’s resident dancing king – the one and only Duck King! – will join SNK’s Fatal Fury: City of the Wolves on August 27.

A fan-favorite character, see how the feathers will fly with our Fatal Fury: City of the Wolves Duck King preview…

Fatal Fury: City of the Wolves Duck King Preview

Blending together stylish dance moves with martial arts, Duck King keeps things lively as he brings the hits.

Keeping to the rhythm, Duck King uses his dance moves to chain attacks of different shapes and sizes.

Don’t be fooled into thinking this mohawked fiend is a one-hit wonder type of fighter, oh no.

Rather, Duck King’s moveset in Fatal Fury: City of the Wolves lets players follow up each attack with an oh-so-satisfying “one, two, I’m here!” that never gets old.

When properly utilized, Duck King is able to take advantage of his speed with high-low mixups that force fighters to be on the offensive. While these fast-paced Rush attacks can very well leave Duck King vulnerable due to a poor read, those that master his unique style can get that Combo meter number up as they Get Down.

For those who want a quick burst of speed, Duck King can barrel forward with his Head Spin Attack that can then be followed up with a Ground Finish. He can also take to the air (as a bird does) with his Flying Spin Attack that can then be followed up with an Air Finish if one so chooses.

Do note that Duck King can also take advantage of a number of Backstep moves in Fatal Fury: City of the Wolves that provide distance and force opponents to have a bad read of their own.

Bringing the moves to Fatal Fury: City of the Wolves, Duck King’s mixture of martial arts and dancing will let players Get Down as they throw down in South Town.

Fatal Fury: City of the Wolves is available for the PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC (via both Steam and the Epic Games Store) – learn more via its official website.

For those feeling social, make sure to follow the official Fatal Fury Twitter/X social media channel.

An official SNK Discord channel is also available for those looking to join the conversation.

Thank you to PR for giving us the chance to preview Duck King in Fatal Fury: City of the Wolves ahead of release!

Madden NFL 27 Review

A yearly tradition, EA Tiburon is back to the gridiron with the release of Madden NFL 27.

Powered by the all-new Persona Engine, see whether players should own every decision with our review…

Madden NFL 27 Review

Madden NFL 27 is all about its modes and playing how you want to play.

On that note, its story-based Superstar mode lives up to its name, letting players become a star in the NFL.

Bringing in my QB from College Football 27, I got recruited second to the Jets. My personal Madden curse is to be first-round by the Jets any time I play.

This system is set up like a proper RPG management game – players will level up, gain stats, earn sponsors, take damage, practice, and even demand trades. This can prove to be overwhelming in the off-season, when players are flooded with messages and stat points.

Playing through five seasons, I enjoyed Madden NFL 27’s Superstar mode for the most part – minus its sheer amount of microtransactions.

On that note, Madden NFL 27’s Superstar mode features a Battle Pass that caught me off guard.

Players can also buy stat points to upgrade players quickly. That being said, those that do so will only have them go to the star; making a new one requires more stats.

While typically a non-starter in a single-player mode, the Battle Pass makes up a big part of the screen when not playing a game.

Gameplay in Madden NFL 27 is solid all-around, with the addition of Pass Placement standing out. Allowing players to use the stick as you throw the ball, players can then guide the ball to throw it outside, under, or over.

This make plays a lot easier!

Running, catching, and tackling all feel good in Madden NFL 27, with impact hits really rattling players. The goofy slip and miss tackle on close catches still happens, but this proves to be rare. While we still prefer College Football 27’s gameplay this year, Madden NFL 27’s gameplay is also solid.

The on-field stuff in Madden NFL 27 works well, but it’s the things after the game that don’t quite work as well.

When playing Franchise mode and taking complete control of a team, players can pick the playbook, coaches, and players. Franchise also lets players run the game – and even play the games if you want.

The best way to get the overall NFL owner experience, running these franchises currently features a noticeable problem…

Contracts are obscene as of this writing, we’re talking seven to eight years for over 150 million. The player then goes and retires two years later at the ripe old age of 35.

Players winning Super Bowls, MVP, breaking records – they’re all retiring way too soon. Some of these guys are in the overall 90s, and they just leave the NFL after the best seasons of their careers.

Rebalancing to keep players around longer would benefit Madden NFL 27 greatly.

Ultimate Team is Madden NFL 27 certainly works, that much is true.

How do I know? I lost all three of my games.

Those seeking this type of mode will find their fix, with crazy challenges and earnable packs just waiting to be ripped open.

While not for me, pack-pullers will have a blast.

As of this writing, Madden NFL 27 features loading bugs after a few games. After winning, I’d load out, and the screen would sit there as it loads back to the Superstar menu.

Restarting would fix this issue, and I didn’t lose progress; it was just annoying. While there was one crash during a pre-season game, it could have been worse.

Those fiending for the start of the NFL season will enjoy Madden NFL 27, but this title can still use a few patches to iron out its balancing.

The Sinking City 2 Review

After finding success with cult hit The Sinking City, Frogwares is trying a more traditional survival horror approach with The Sinking City 2.

See whether this was the right call with our review…

The Sinking City 2 Review

Following the story of Calvin Rafertty and Faye Bennet, The Sinking City 2 follows this pair’s journey to track down weird and ancient artifacts. One such artifact is the Book of Dreaming, with the two of them looking to use it to contact a god.

Sounds simple, right?

One failed ritual later, Calvin is left wondering what happened after Faye is left in a comatose state. With one’s memory hazy and the surrounding city literally sinking (it’s in the name), Calvin seeks to find another book for yet another ritual.

This isn’t easy; the city is being evacuated, multiple gates are down, and weird worms are all over. On your way to the library, Calvin will fight off dead humans taken over by these worms. From there, The Sinking City 2 becomes survival horror as players manage inventory, solve puzzles, kill enemies and bosses, and save one’s lover.

The original release felt like a much larger open-world-style game. While The Sinking City 2 is still open, it is far more managed with less downtime on foot. This works in its favor, as its claustrophobic makes combat much more tense. While exploring the city and finding secrets is still enjoyable, there was more running from enemies in The Sinking City 2.

However, the combat itself of The Sinking City 2 could use refinement. A recent review of mine spoke about importance of impact – the feel of an attack in a video game.

The guns in The Sinking City 2 feel lackluster, never providing that satisfying pop. Even with an upgraded shotgun, the impact never felt right. It does a ton of damage, sure, but it lacked that impact. That being said, both the melee and head stomping felt solid.

A survival horror game at its core, bullets and healing are very limited in The Sinking City 2. Enemies normally have a weak spot that can be exploited by shooting it – failure to do so burns through ammo.

The right items allow for crafting additional bullets and heals, but its official Tips section mentions players should run often.

Starting The Sinking City 2 by shooting and killing everything, I constantly ran out of ammo. However, when picking my battles and shots, I go a lot further and stacked with everything I eventually needed.

When not in combat or exploring, The Sinking City 2 features plenty of puzzles to solve.

Early on, most involve finding an item and bringing it back – puzzle solved.

Later on, more intricate puzzles are introduced that will have players stopping, thinking, and even reading.

When finding clues, players can pin them together to create a sequence. For instance, an early puzzle required finding a date to open a lock. The date was found, but a note was required that mentioned five needed to be added to the year.

While a simple system, it works for The Sinking City 2.

The Sinking City 2 features almost no inventory space to start, exacerbated with some items taking multiple slots. Players can upgrade this inventory system by finding secrets and opening special chests, but items still had to be sacrificed. It proved to be a major annoyance early on.

Unfortunately, The Sinking City 2 also features some technical issues as of this writing.

When standing still and moving slowly, the game runs great. However, any kind of running or fast camera movements in The Sinking City 2 lead to frequent frame dips.

When in combat trying to take out multiple enemies, this provides unneeded additional stress that happens frequently. A few crashes also occurred during the review peiod.

This review of The Sinking City 2 was done on a base PlayStation 5, and could very well provide a smoother experience on either the PlayStation 5 Pro or the PC.

While there is something special brewing in The Sinking City 2, the development team simply needed more time with this release. Even the most diehard of Lovecraftian fans best wait for a few patches before checking this one out.
