Apex Legends x Cyberpunk Event Preview – Get Ready Chooms!

Legends will be chroming up when Respawn Entertainment and EA’s Apex Legends crosses over with CD PROJEKT RED’s Cyberpunk as part of its new collaboration event July 14.

With the iconic Outlands hacked, see what awaits in Night City’s E-District with our preview…

Apex Legends x Cyberpunk Event Preview – Get Ready Chooms!

As part of this special event kicking off July 14, new Cyberware mods the iconic Sandevistan mod from Edgerunners will make an appearance in Wildcard, along with Blackwall:

  • Much like David Martinez’ Cyberpunk: Edgerunners tech, Sandevistan has been wired for speed. Those that tap into it can take advantage of quick dashes in any direction, with players able to chain two dashes before touching ground to close gaps or ghost away from danger
  • Meanwhile, Blackwall Breach phases allows players to phas into the Net to reposition. From there, players can unleash a disruptive blast that is able to shatter enemies’ shields as they return

Val Ayer, IP Product Lead, said the following:

“I’m thrilled by what we were able to accomplish alongside CD PROJEKT RED in bringing Cyberpunk to Apex Legends.

Both of our studios share many of the same philosophies when it comes to crafting compelling gameplay experiences and immersive worlds.

We put an incredible amount of thought and effort into this collaboration, and I think players will be able to feel that in every aspect of it.”

However, also true to series form, one should also keep Cyberpsychosis in mind as part of this Apex Legends collaboration.

One’s Cyberware Capacity fills as they use Cyberware, with those that Redline going full Cyberpsycho. This will then lead to high movement speed and devastating melee damage, albeit with no weapons, no abilities, no shields, and no ordnance.

To counter this, players will need to either keep their chrome in check or reverse Cyberpsychosis with Immunoblocker Syringes (found around the map) or Immunoblocker Caches that fully reset one’s meter.

Speaking to this element, Lead Technical Designer Jesse Medellin said the following:

“When we decided to introduce Cyberware into the Apex universe, we knew Cyberpsychosis had to be a part of the experience.

It is a core element to the Cyberware mechanic and it portrays the cost that making use of these enhancements has on individuals.

Through prototyping and playtesting, we chose to focus on two key aspects of this altered state for the event, the overwhelming power of a juggernaut and the inherent vulnerability that comes with losing control.

Going full Cyberpsycho led to some fun emergent gameplay moments in our internal playtests, and I am excited to see how players manage their use of Cyberware and harness their power when the event goes live.”

Players will also be able to hunt down the Mythic Skippy Alternator, and can also activate “Puppy Loving Pacifist” or “Stone Cold Killer” mode.

Paying it back in kind, players can also upgrade Skippy with Exotic Shards to unlock new visuals, ordnance skins, and knock effects.

Finally, Apex Legends players will be able to earn Eddies throughout this event that can be spend in its Reward Shop. Highlights include an Arasaka Epic Valkyrie Skin, a Kang-Tao Epic Mirage Skin, and more.

Players will also be able to upgrade one’s look with eight Legend Skins for Axle, Sparrow, Lifeline, Crypto, Rampart, Loba, Ash, and Gibraltar. New Weapon Skins for the Wingman, Charge Rifle, Mastiff, L-STAR, P2020, RE-45, R-301, and Kraber will also make an appearance.

Patrick Mills, Franchise Content Strategy Lead, also said the following:

“Working with the Respawn has been great and I’m very excited for people to see we’ve gone about incorporating Cyberpunk into Apex Legends.

We thought carefully about how to translate both the world and gameplay elements from Cyberpunk in that felt natural, and the result feels pretty special.

Personally, my favorite element collaboration has been bringing Skippy to the world of Apex; he’s in my list of top characters from Cyberpunk 2077 and I’m thrilled for Apex players to meet him!

Ultimately, I can’t wait for our players to get their hands on everything Apex Legends x Cyberpunk has to offer!”

Night City’s E-District awaits all Apex Legends players with its new Cyberpunk event July 14, letting players chrome up as they take down the competition.

Apex Legends is available for the PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, Nintendo Switch, Nintendo Switch 2, and PC via both the EA App and Steam.
