Dave the Diver: In the Jungle Review

After a wildly successful launch and multiple smaller DLCs, Mintrocket is continuing the titular Dave the Diver’s adventure with the recently released In the Jungle DLC.

See whether divers should venture forth to the village of Utara with our review…

Dave the Diver: In the Jungle Review

In the Jungle begins with a bang – a literal one, in fact.

Dr. Bacon asks Dave to check out this explosion. As it turns out, they have a researcher in the Jungle around the proximity of this loud noise.

There’s also plenty of water for fishing – naturally.

Gathering your crew – even Bancho! – players will then head into the jungle to find out what’s going on.

Upon arrival, it’s clear something is off.

After a dead dinosaur whale has washed up, its stomach explodes before anyone can perform any sort of investigation on it.

The village elder tries to explain what’s going on, but dinner is served beforehand. However, Bancho is horrified by the food, offering to set up a restaurant with Dave’s help (as he does).

Much like before, one’s job here is two-fold: investigate the blue hole, and catch fish to help the restaurant thrive.

If you liked Dave the Diver’s base game, you’ll LOVE this In the Jungle DLC.

In the Jungle keeps things especially interesting with its new Jungle Gun.

When it comes to the base Dave the Diver release, while players could bring extra weapons like sharks or nets to catch extra fish, they all took up slots.

However, the Jungle Gun has four weapons built in that lets players switch at will without returning to the surface. This, in turn, allows for more exploration and gathering opportunities while diving.

Assuming we get a Dave the Diver 2 (be madness not to!), The Jungle Gun needs to be a must for me going forward.

Another big change In the Jungle brings the titular Dave to the village itself.

Featuring a top-down perspective, the village allows players to explore this new area while also meeting locals and gathering quests.

The movement and perspective shift also extends during its restaurant time, which admittedly took a few nights to get used to.

While something I didn’t expect, it is most certainly welcomed in this DLC.

Speaking of unexpected additions, did you know In the Jungle also features turn-based combat?

Since Cobra also joins you on this mission, players can enter the jungle on foot as well.

Cobra, Dave, and Maya (a new NPC who gives you the aforementioned Jungle Gun) all venture out into this new area, finding an ancient temple that features clues as to what’s going on.

While there, In the Jungle treats players to turn-based combat, puzzles, and material gathering as they explore even deeper. It’s another element of In the Jungle that will have players lost for hours.

In the Jungle also features a number of mini-games. From having beetles fight, to doing some duck hunting, to even raising a virtual flower, there’s always something to do.

Players can also build relationships with villagers as they learn more about them, possibly getting gifts in turn.

A no-brainer for Dave the Diver fans, the new In the Jungle DLC is well worth diving into.

Composer Go Shiina Lending Talents to TINY METAL 2

Award-Winning Composer Go Shiina will lend his talents to the soundtrack of AREA 35 Inc.’s turn-based strategy title TINY METAL 2.

Known for his work on Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba, Go Shiina has created music for Tiny Metal 2 that features a number of grand orchestral recordings. Each one adds greater depth, emotion, and energy to its dramatic world and the stories of the characters that fight across the battlefield.

Hiroaki Yura, CEO of AREA 35 Inc. said the following:

“Beyond being an incredible composer, Go Shiina is one of the kindest people I’ve had the pleasure of working with, and I genuinely believe his music reflects that.

Last year, we were discussing opportunities to work together again, and I asked if he would be interested in contributing to TINY METAL 2.

Thankfully, he graciously accepted.

The world of TINY METAL 2 often places its characters in situations that seem hopeless or predetermined.

I wanted the music to capture the feeling of standing against that destiny, of finding the strength to challenge what appears inevitable.

Even in the darkest moments, there is always a sense of determination and hope pushing the characters forward, and I felt Go was uniquely suited to express that through his music.”

Happening from July 9-12 in Paris, TINY METAL 2 will be at the upcoming Japan Expo, with Go Shiina making a special appearance alongside the AREA 35 Inc. team for an exclusive announcement.

In the interim, one can wishlist TINY METAL 2 via its official Steam page.

For those feeling social, be sure to follow the official Facebook, Twitter/X, and Instagram social media channels.

An official Discord channel is also available for those looking to join the conversation.

Atari x MobyGames Career Development Program Revealed

Dubbed Moby Professional, Atari and MobyGames have launched a new beta careers program for game industry professionals to navigate the career market, explore bizdev opportunities, network, and stay informed.

Moby Professional has been designed for gaming industry professionals with toolsets for job seeking, business development, and networking.

Reece Denzel, Product Manager at Atari, said the following:

“The past few years have been really hard for a lot of incredibly talented people in the games industry.

They’ve had to fight an uphill battle to get noticed in a difficult hiring environment. MobyGames has spent 25 years building a database of what they’ve accomplished and who they’ve worked with.

Helping them use it more directly for jobs, for visibility, for their own careers, feels like a natural next step for growing the Moby platform.”

Andreas Deptolla, President of Atari Europe, also said the following:

“Ask any games professional what platform they use to manage their career, and you’ll hear the same frustrations – existing solutions were not designed for this industry.

MobyGames has documented game credits with more depth and accuracy than anyone else for decades. Combining that foundation with a purpose-built professional network was simply the obvious thing to do.”

With both free and professional tiers, Moby Professional will be available for free during the beta period, which is projected to run through the end of the Summer.
