Acclaim’s Super Basketball Classics Featuring the Harlem Globetrotters Revealed

Inspired by the classic 8- and 16-bit hoops games we so love, Acclaim has revealed Super Basketball Classics – featuring the World-Famous Harlem Globetrotters!

Launching in conjunction with the Harlem Globetrotters 100th anniversary season, Super Basketball Classics sets out to reimagine basketball as both competitive arcade action and pure spectacle. 

Featuring a retro-future nostalgia aesthetic, Super Basketball Classics will look the part with crisp pixel art, rotoscoped-style visual filters, and a soundtrack blending together classic arcade beats with modern flair.

Chicory: A Musical Tale Now Available on Bandcamp

A special arrangement album by Resonant Union and Composer Lena Raine’s Chicory: A Musical Tale, Chicory: A Musical Tale is now available on Bandcamp.

Paying tribute to this charming indie game and its mesmerizing soundtrack, the Resonant Union community has come together with special guest collaborations with Composer bermei.inazawa (Lies of P, DJMAX), Composer Kohta Takahashi (Ridge Racer, TEKKEN), and Vocalist Emi Evans (NieR, Dark Souls). 

Now available on Bandcamp, Chicory: A Musical Tale features arrangements that cover styles ranging from classical and metal to jazz and electronic.

Resonant Union producer Philip Saguil said the following:

“When I played through Chicory, I saw a reflection of myself in the story.

I’m sure this is an experience shared by many. This project is a reflection of my hopes and dreams, shared by the artists who joined me. 

After pitching Chicory: A Musical Tale to Lena a year ago, we started to explore Picnic Province after the events of Chicory: A Colorful Tale as the seasons pass throughout the year. 

I asked each arranger to consider what the season associated with their track meant to them personally, and to write as if creating a tone painting with sound. 

Close your eyes, let the music wash over you, and imagine the colors of the world.”

Composer Lena Raine also said the following:

“When Resonant Union invited me to join the arrange album project for ZeroRanger in 2024, I was delighted to participate in a celebration of the music for a game I really loved.

So when they asked me if I’d like to do an arrange album of my own music, the first thing that came to mind was my music for Chicory. 

Because the thematic core of the game becomes opening up the possibilities of art to be for anyone, it felt like the most obvious choice to share what the world of Chicory might look like with dozens of incredible artists all sharing what their version of the world, and music, might sound like.

Inspired by grindhouse cinema, Nekome: Nazi Hunter tells the story of young Romani man Vano Nastasu, whose family was brutally murdered at the hands of Nazi soldiers. 

Turning from hunted to hunter, Nekome: Nazi Hunter will have players carving out a blood-soaked path across war-torn Europe.

Vano is hunting Nazis. He’s doing more than just punching them in the face, as his every move is a calculated act of revenge that transports players into his world.”

Nekome: Nazi Hunter will release for the PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC via both Steam and the Epic Games Store.

Pride-Themed Showcase Gayming Pride Parade Planned for Summer Game Fest

Hosted by Milady Confetti, The Gayming Foundation has announced the Gayming Pride Parade – an official Summer Game Fest stream that will spotlight LGBTQ+ representation in games along with the talent behind them.

Framed as a virtual Pride parade for video games, the Gayming Pride Parade will showcase 10 LGBTQ+ games presented as “floats,” complete with trailers, commentary, and developer appearances that spotlight queer talent across the industry. 

This showcase is being produced by the Gayming Foundation, and will feature support from Gayming Magazine, the leading LGBTQ+ gaming publication and home of queer geek culture.

Milady Confetti, award-winning streamer and host of the Gayming Pride Parade, said the following:

“Hosting the Gayming Pride Parade and getting to showcase queer games is my dream gig — it’s Pride, it’s games, and a full-on celebration of queer creativity.

We’re turning the showcase into a parade of incredible LGBTQ+ games and voices, and I can’t wait for everyone to see the lineup we’re putting together.”

Robin Gray, Executive Director, Gayming Foundation, also said the following:

“Pride has always been about visibility, celebration, and community — especially during moments when those things are being challenged.

Cyberpunk Coming-of-Age Story Petal Runner Steam Demo Live

A coming-of-age story set in a pixel-art-powered open world, players can hop on their bike and ride this Friday with the new Steam demo for Nano Park Studios and iam8bit Presents’ Petal Runner.

In this coming of age story, players will be able to join both Cali and Kira as they set out to explore the sun-soaked Sapphire Valley, training up to become the titular Petal Runners.

A diverse metropolis, Petal Runners’ Sapphire City features a world filled with charming characters, side adventures, and fresh minigames. The title ultimately serves as a love letter to the chunky, friendly pixels of the 8-bit Game Boy Color era we so adore.

As part of Petal Runner’s public demo, players will be able to explore the title’s second coastal district of North Valley. Filled with good vibes, culture, characters and jobs, players will also be able to experience new minigames and never-before-seen digital HanaPets.
