The Rumble Fish 2 – Nintendo Switch 2 Edition Launching January 22

Developed by Dimps in 2005, 3goo is bringing the legendary fighter The Rumble Fish 2 to the Nintendo Switch 2 with enhanced features on January 22.

Exclusive to the Nintendo Switch 2 Edition of The Rumble Fish 2 is its Team Battle mode. When in play, players can pick three favorite characters, both online and offline. Crossplay with the original Nintendo Switch version has also been included!

The Nintendo Switch 2 Edition of The Rumble Fish 2 includes all features from the original 2022 console release, along with content from post-launch Version 4.0. Highlights include an Online Versus Mode with rollback netcode, selectable aspect ratios, spectator mode, and a robust training mode.

VGHF, iam8bit, and Mega Cat Bringing NES Xcavator to Life

Rebuilt from legendary programmer Chris Oberth’s original source code, iam8bit, the Video Game History Foundation, Mega Cat Studios, and Retrotainment Games are bringing the long-lost NES game Xcavator back to life with the upcoming release of Xcavator 2025 (NES Cartridge).

Originally developed at Incredible Technologies Inc., Xcavator was shopped around to multiple publishers in 1991 but never found a home at the time.

After the original source code was donated by Oberth’s family to the Video Game History Foundation, the title has been rebuilt in partnership with Mega Cat Studios. 

Incredible Technologies has agreed to donate the rights to the Video Game History Foundation to preserve the game IP and aid the charity’s fundraising for its work within the videogames industry..

Frank Cifaldi, founder and director of the Video Game History Foundation, said the following:

“The original Xcavator prototype is a rare glimpse at the struggles of an indie developer trying to break into the console industry during the 8-bit golden age.

The world wasn’t ready for it in 1991, but thanks to Oberth saving his work – and to his family for getting it into archivist hands – 2026 will be the year that his work will finally see the light of day. 

This is an important piece of game history and we’re proud to be able to raise awareness for it with the help of everyone involved.”

Pre-orders for Xcavator 2025 will close January 10 via the official website, with the physical game expected to ship in Q2 2026

Note that 100% of profits will go to supporting the Video Game History Foundation’s mission to preserve and celebrate the history of video games.

Sonic the Hedgehog Speed Cafe Chicago Pop-Up Opening December 20

An immersive, family-friendly restaurant pop-up, SEGA, Andy Nguyen, and Chef David Choi’s Sonic the Hedgehog Speed Cafe will make its way to Chicago December 20.

The sixth pop-up shop for the Sonic the Hedgehog Speed Cafe, this experiential restaurant stop in Chicago is also its first Illinois location. 

It can be found at the Seoul Taco location on December 20 at 1422 N Milwaukee Ave, Chicago, IL 60622 (Google Maps link for convenience).

Giving diners a chance to walk into Sonic the Hedgehog’s universe, this cafe features custom decor designed to immerse guests in the Blue Blur’s world. 

Menu items at the Sonic the Hedgehog Speed Cafe also meet the franchise theme – scope out the highlights below:

  • Sonic the Hedgehog’s Turbo Chili Dog
  • Spicy Fried Chicken Knuckles Sandwich
  • Power-Up Ring Onion Rings
  • Sonic Boom Lemonade (Sonic the Hedgehog)
  • Chaos Emerald Refresher
  • Knuckles’ Smash Fries
  • Shadow’s Eclipse Affogato
  • Scoop-de-Loop Ice Cream Sandwich

No matter what one orders, all items at the Sonic the Hedgehog Speed Cafe come in custom-designed packaging that is exclusive to the Chicago location.

The Sonic the Hedgehog Speed Cafe also features Chicago-themed Sonic the Hedgehog Speed Cafe merchandise for purchase, including t-shirts, hats, and hooded sweatshirts exclusively sold at the Wicker Park location. 

Adding to the flavor, Chicago artist Luis De Guzman will also design a custom Sonic the Hedgehog mural inside the cafe.

AviaGames Germany Expansion Revealed

AviaGames has announced its expansion into Europe with a new subsidiary in Hamburg, Germany.

As part of this expansion that’s part of AviaGames’ global growth strategy, Games Industry Veteran Michelle Zou has been appointed to head the new entity. In this role, she will oversee market expansion and investment initiatives across Europe. 

Vickie Chen, Founder and CEO, of AviaGames, said the following:

“Germany is not only one of the largest gaming markets in Europe but also a hub for innovation and collaboration.

Palia’s Winter-Themed Update Live

Ringing in the holiday season in style, the team at Singularity 6 has released the Winter’s Wonder: Home for Winterlights Update that brings with it the return of the Winterlights Store, the Grow-A-Snowman Event, and more.

The Return of Zeki’s Winterfest Challenge

All Palians will receive mail from Zeki, which features hints about the locations of his seven hidden chests. Some contain snow covered decor, and finding all will allow players to purchase the recipes directly at the Winterlights Store.

Winterlights Quests 

New rewards can be earned by both new and returning Palians. 

Those that complete the Winterlights Quest will be able to purchase new ornaments within the Winterlights Store.

Monthly Bundle Quest: Winterlights Edition

Found at the bulletin board, Palians can complete this seasonal quest to earn themed rewards, which include the Winterlights Ashura Ornament and Winterlights Reth Ornament.

Grow-A-Snowman Event!

Beginning December 9 at 10am PT and running through January 13 at 10am PT, Palians can join the Grow-A-Snowman Event and collect Snowman Plushes to help grow the snowman overlooking Kilima Village. 

Players will also be able to discover Sandy Paws Presents containing seasonal decor, all while participating in Palia activities like hunting, fishing, and insect collecting.

Furniture Tints

A rework of the Furniture Tint system is also live in Palia, bringing with it six additional tint palettes.

Also included is an all-new way to apply tints to change your home’s color palette for the season!

New Home Line: The Estate 

Inspired by the regal Mayor’s Estate in Kilima Village, Palia’s new home line includes new trims, columns, railings and stair options.

Note that is supported across every Home Line!

Introducing Lunar Paths

Available for the first time, Palia’s Lunar Paths serve as a new long-term progression system that function like a battle pass.

This has been designed to give players a clear and satisfying way to earn both free and premium rewards through play.

The Winterlights Store is Back

Palians will be able to look forward to a host of seasonally-themed items available on the Winterlights Store, including Icicles and Ornaments Tree Toppers.

The Introducing of the Boovar

The Boovar is a bear(ish) ranch companion with antlers and a big love for fish. 

On that note, Palians can now add the Boovar to their ranches!

New Ranching Animal Visual Effects

New Visual Effect Traits are now available to all ranching Animals, featuring unique auras, sparkles, and electric effects.

Premium Store Updates 

Palians can step into the season with the Winter Warrior collection, a striking set of ice-forged armor, glider, and tool skins that shimmer with frosted power. 

For the pet lovers among us, three new Boovar Pets – Woodland, Arctic, and Holiday Cheer – will make an appearance.

Genshin Impact X Duolingo Collaboration Live Through December 27

From now through December 27, Genshin Impact is collaborating with the popular language learning app platform Duolingo for a limited-time 3-Day Streak Quest.

As part of this collaboration, Duolingo app users will be able to join Paimon, Tighnari, and Cyno alongside Duo as they take part in a limited-time Genshin Impact x Duolingo 3-Day Streak Quest. 

Those that complete their learning exercises for three consecutive days will be able to net themselves a number of in-game rewards, including an event- exclusive Genshin Impact namecard, avatar, and Primogems.
