Elden Ring Nightreign The Forsaken Hollows Review

With the mainline release launching earlier this year (check out our glowing 90/100 review!), FromSoftware and Bandai Namco have released The Forsaken Hollows DLC for Elden Ring Nightreign to ring in this frosty season.

Shall players go together once more, or should this DLC be well left alone?

Elden Ring Nightreign The Forsaken Hollows Review

The Forsaken Hollows DLC for Elden Ring Nightreign brings a few new things to the table, namely two new classes, a new map, and new bosses.

There’s some new story content to be had, but not enough to really talk about.

Let’s go over the new classes first…

The Scholar Class is a support/debuffing class, one that proves to be at odds with a title like this.

The Scholar’s skills lower the enemies’ attack and armor, with the Ultimate granting players the ability to take even more damage.

Also coming with The Scholar Class is a unique Passive Skill that upgrades items. On that note, the more items one uses, the better they become. Combined with a Rune that makes items affect allies, and players can transform themselves into an absolute powerhouse.

However, there is a downside: The Scholar’s damage output and defense are mid at best.

Best to play smart to survive…

Then there is The Forsaken Hollows’ Undertaker class – personally the best thing in the whole DLC.

An offensive-focused character, The Undertaker possesses a unique Passive Skill and an absolutely devastating Ultimate Skill. Much like The Scholar, The Undertaker’s HP and defenses are a bit on the low end.

However, The Undertaker Class makes up for this by allowing her to use her Ultimate skill for free after another ally uses theirs.

Those with three Undertakers could, in theory, do six Ultimate attacks between the three – that’s power!

Put simply, The Forsaken Hollows’ Undertaker Class quickly become our favorite Class to play.

Another big draw to The Forsaken Hollows is its new map. The Underground is full of giant crystals and new enemies alike, and could very well be more difficult than the first map.

Regardless, death proved to be imminent, complete with tons of bottomless gaps to fall through.

If you think about the underground wells and cities in Elden Ring, it’s more like that.

Down here, players will face off against new bosses and very aggressive enemies.

Its center hosts a massive crystal that can be broken to get extra power. It does make for a smaller map, however, with players running around the outskirts more often than not.

As a result, some map buffs prove to be brutal, including a firestorm that burns HP, slows, and a curse that reduces max HP by 50%.

If the base Elden Ring Nightreign game wasn’t hard enough, this new map in The Forsaken Hollows will give players a run for their money.

While The Forsaken Hollows features new bosses, new characters, and a new map, the Elden Ring Nightreign DLC is lacking in new weapons.

There are admittedly a few new weapons in The Forsaken Hollows, but they are just reskins of other weapons.

Unfortunately, new magic and summons are also in short supply.

Elden Ring: Shadow of the Erdtree was released not too long ago (last year, in fact!), but not a single weapon from that DLC makes an appearance.

Balance definitely comes into play, but let’s be honest: Weapons are one of the main draws of Elden Ring as a whole.

Elden Ring Nightreign’s DLC also doesn’t fix the fact that some people simply don’t want to mark the map.

A leader and follower mode would have been appreciated, one that allows players to claim the marking job and let others follow.

As a result, it can often feel frustrating when people leave matches due to a lack of decisions.

While Elden Ring Nightreign The Forsaken Hollows’ new characters are truly great, the lack of new weapons proves to be a sticking point. Hardcore players shouldn’t hesitate to download this DLC, but more casual fans best wait for a sale.

First-Person Psychological Horror Title Silent Road Revealed

A drive through Japan’s suicide ring in one’s night-shift taxi is in the works with Endflame’s first-person psychological horror title Silent Road.

Set within a remote Japanese forest region, Silent Road will have players taking on the mantle of a night-shift taxi driver.

However, as the night unfolds and through tense rides and chilling encounters come to fruition, the truth behind the forest will begin to reveal itself…

See Silent Road for yourself with the announcement trailer below:

Silent Road Announcement Trailer

Endflame co-founders Laura Ripoll and Guillem Travila said the following:

“We’ve always loved Japanese horror – the quiet tension, the atmosphere, the way it stays with you long after it ends. Silent Road grew from that love.

Our indie journey began with the J-Horror title Ikai, and over time, we’ve found ourselves drawn back to the unique thrill of horror.

Silent Road is our way of embracing that call, pouring our hearts into crafting a frightening experience that also carries something deeper beneath the surface.

Sharing this return to horror with the world is both exciting and terrifying.”

One can wishlist Silent Road via its official Steam page – a demo will be available soon!
