Has Nintendo Lost its Way in 2025?

While we three have much love for Nintendo (just look at our shiny and perfect Super Mario Bros. Wonder review!), not even the Nintendo Switch 2 launch has generated the hype we crave.

Let’s be honest: This year hasn’t been good for Nintendo. Has Nintendo lost its way in 2025?

Has Nintendo Lost its Way in 2025?

We’re not going to sugarcoat things: The Nintendo Switch 2 launch was rough.

Following the Nintendo Switch 2 console reveal on January 16, former Nintendo PR managers Kit Ellis and Krysta Yang weighed in during a video shortly after the Nintendo Direct.

Both Kit and Krysta worked at Nintendo for a decade, with Kit Ellis even saying the following:

“I don’t want to blow things out of proportion, but this does feel like a true crisis moment for Nintendo.”

The Nintendo Switch 2 hardware also proved to be underwhelming for critics, featuring 120hz with 30 FPS response times.

While we don’t dive into politics at Gamers Heroes, it has to be said that pricing for the Nintendo Switch 2 proved to be a contentious issue leading up to launch due to tariffs

Even those looking to play on the original Nintendo Switch are dealing with price increases due to tariffs on 2017’s Nintendo Switch console as of a few weeks ago.

The same could be said of the Nintendo Switch 2’s line-up of titles.

While first-party Nintendo Switch 2 exclusives Mario Kart World and Donkey Kong Bananza garnered praise from critics (earning a Metascore of 86 for World and 91 for Bananza), future titles for the Nintendo Switch 2 seem nebulous as of this writing.

For instance, while we wish to see more of Metroid Prime 4: Beyond – which was also revealed in 2017 – it has proven to be a turbulent eight-year journey for both the title and the development team at Retro Studios.

The recent Nintendo Direct: Partner Showcase from July 31 last month also proved to be underwhelming, with a number of ports and multiplatform titles dominating the runtime.

For Pokémon fans, Pokémon Legends: Z-A is still on track to release on October 16. However, even the most diehard Pokémon fans have flagged its poor visuals and repetitive designs leading up to launch.

We at Gamers Heroes are rooting for Nintendo, and we hope the studio behind some of our all-time favorite titles manages to find a way to finish 2025 strong.

Blue Archive Interview – Executive Producer Yongha Kim & Studio Producer Gyeong Seop An Talk Steam Launch, Fandom, and More

Making waves with its Steam launch this past month, Gamers Heroes got to ask Executive Producer Yongha Kim and Studio Producer Gyeong Seop An about Blue Archive’s Steam launch, fandom, and more – learn more with our interview.
